Mother to Son by Langston Hughes (one of my favorite poems)
Read & Annotate p. 29-30 "Mother to Son," by Langston Hughes. Identify symbolism, figurative language, imagery, theme-related words, words/lines to indicate author's purpose and tone, information about the speaker, audience clue words, etc. Mark anything that helps you to understand the poem more clearly. Read it. Read it again. Read it yet another time. Interact with the text by continuing to annotate the text when you discover something new. You will be surprised how much deeper your understanding will become.
TURN THIS IN ON GOOGLE CLASSROOM by taking a picture and putting it on a document.
Find and explain examples of six poetic devices used by Hughes in the poem
Think Questions 1-5 p. 31
Focus Questions 1-5 p. 32
Create your own staircase! You may use Google Slides or make a 3D model, it's up to you. What does your staircase look like? Is it shiny, like crystal or does it have rough spots where you faced hard times? It may have both.
Each step of your staircase should have the YEAR, an EVENT and a PICTURE.
This pandemic has cause a bit of a tough spot for all of us; show us your life though your staircase!
