First Day Letter Information

Welcome to Mrs. Kvalheim’s

7th Grade Language Arts & Social Studies Classes!

I am so happy to be teaching 7th grade again this year, and I look forward to getting to know everyone. The following information describes the expectations and requirements in my classes.

1. My teacher website is updated daily with in class assignments, and weekly with homework assignments.

  • When students are absent they should check my teacher website’s “In Class & Homework Assignments” page to find out what assignments were missed in class and were assigned for weekly homework.
  • To access my teacher website from the Etiwanda School District Website (etiwanda.org) follow these steps:
    • Under the “Schools” tab, click “Summit Intermediate” under “Intermediate/Middle Schools”
    • Under the “About Us” tab, click “Staff”
    • Click “Mrs. Kvalheim” in the teacher list
    • Click “In Class & Homework Assignments” in the sidebar
    • Please bookmark this webpage for ease of future use.

2. Homework is due on Fridays.

  • Each week’s assigned homework is reviewed on Monday mornings in class and should be written in students’ Pride Planners. The assignments will also be listed briefly on the whiteboard in my classroom and available in detail on my teacher website’s “In Class & Homework Assignments” page.

3. Students will be given an individualized Accelerated Reader (AR) goal for each trimester based upon their score on the STAR test the first week of each trimester. Students can only take AR tests at school, and they should read books within their assigned reading level. Students’ progress toward their goals can be viewed online at home through Renaissance Home Connect. The link is available on my teacher website under the “Helpful Links” tab. I encourage parents to check this site weekly to monitor their student’s AR progress.

4. I update my students’ grades weekly in Aeries and give time in class to check their grades after each update.

  • It is very important for students and parents to check grades weekly using the Parent/Student Portal. The link is available on my teacher website under the “Helpful Links” tab.
  • If you need assistance with your parent or student portal account, please call the Summit Intermediate School office at (909) 899-1704.

5. My policies for extra credit and late work are as follows:

  • I do not offer extra credit on an individual basis to bring up grades. On rare occasions I will offer extra credit for a special task to all students.
  • I accept late work. The highest grade that can be earned on late work is 70%.

6. Our classroom is part of a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school, which embraces the following framework:
